Many pro players use or have used this classic
wood-combed harmonica
(which pre-1975 was the best
diatonic anyone could buy), but is not necessarily
recommended for
beginners or someone that does not plan on spending the
time or money involved on customizing it (mainly to seal
the
pear wood comb). These harmonicas can leak air and make it
very difficult for beginners to learn on, especially the
bending technique.
See the Hohner
Deluxe Marine
Band or the
Hohner Crossover Marine
Band (with a sealed bamboo comb) for
"pre-customized" Marine Bands which are better
quality and more airtight wood-combed harmonicas.
A common question is
whether or not the wood comb
makes these harmonicas sound better than plastic combed
diatonics? The answer is no. 99% of the overall sound
quality comes from the player's own abilities.
Be sure to use the
"Choose Key:" pull-down menu to select your key.
The default key of "C" is good if
you are just starting out. After "C", other good beginner
keys
include: "A", "D", "F", and "G". Return to this page to
add additional keys to your order.
Low Keys (and High "G"): The "Low D", "Low Eb",
"Low E", "Low E", "Low F#", and
"High G" keys, may require a special
order and could add 1-3 weeks to the standard shipping
time.
