tubes and fender amp

i've purchased a '65 bassman bass fender amp (reissue) to blow my harp thru. i got it used and now realize it's missing the 5AR4 rectifier tube. it seems to play alright as is but i'm wondering what i'm missing . what tone change can i expect if i replace it? also someone told me to switch out one of the 12AX7 tubes (which?) with a 12AY7/6072A or 12AU7A/5963 to get a better sound. i'm not an amp head but does anyone know anything about these issues?
