Heather,
A better diatonic would be the Lee Oskar in the key of "C". For a bigger qift, you could get the "C" and any of the following: "A", "D", "F", "G".
A dfferent type of harmonica that has "more range" would be a chromatic harmonica. I'd recommend the Hohner CX-12. The Hohner #270 is less expensive, but not quite as nice. See the link below for more info on these harmonicas.
Our sister site, Harmonica Lessons.com is great for learning what he needs to know to keep improving.
I wouldn't recommend the XB-40 to get started on, but it is a nice harmonica down the line.
Good luck,
Webmaster
: The 1101 XB-40 Extreme Bending Harp...what can you tell me about this?? Or can you reccomend something better suited for me...my fiance has only been playing for a short while and doesn't know too much of the "technical stuff", he is teaching himself how to play. Right now he has a "hohner marine band" in B. He wants a new one for his birthday that has "more range" and that is "better". Can you help me out at all??
